A-PRO lawyers dissuade the Investigative Committee from detaining a client

On October 27th, an A-PRO client was detained by the Central Office of the Russian Federation Investigative Committee agents and was accused of committing three white-collar crimes during the first stage of the Moscow Central Ring Road (TsKAD) construction during 2014–2019.

Part 3 Clause 285 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation imposes a prison term of up to 10 years for the abovementioned crimes. The case has long been a subject of discussion in the leading business papers and invoked a massive public stir.

After detention the client was brought to Basmanny District Court by the investigative authorities. The court was to consider applying restraint measures of pre-trial detention. Despite the Prosecutor General’s Office representative supported the Investigative Committee and demanded the client to be sent to a detention facility, A-PRO lawyers managed to persuade the court that applying the heaviest restraint measures in the given case was clearly unjustified and contravened the law. After an extensive study of the case files, the court rejected the request of the Investigative Committee and changed the restraint measures to house arrest.
